Tax Audit Defense FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How long have you been in business?

We have been providing Tax Audit Defense and TaxHotline membership services since 1988.

What happens when I receive an audit notice?

As soon as you receive an audit notice, call the phone number provided on your TaxResources contract.  DO NOT call the IRS. You must use TaxResources as YOUR ONLY contact with the IRS or State. When you have provided the audit notice and the tax return to our Audit Coordinator, the appropriate qualified representative will be assigned to you.

Will you be offering this every year?

Yes. TaxResources plans to continue this program.

What is your satisfaction guarantee?

You may cancel your Audit Defense membership plan for any reason within 30 days of purchase.

Do you review my tax return before you accept my membership?

We do not review your tax return prior to the acceptance of the membership.

Is Tax Audit Defense for such a nominal cost too good to be true?

We agree that it may seem too good to be true, but it is not.  We have been successfully defending taxpayers since 1988.

I have a business. Is it included?

If you have a business that files a partnership or corporation return, you must purchase a separate membership for that entity.

How long will these Membership Plans defend my return?

The memberships will defend your tax return for as long as it can be audited.

Can I purchase Memberships for prior years?

Yes. You can purchase Tax Audit Defense for all prior years back to 1998.

What happens if I do not file my tax return on time?

These Membership Plans do not include returns that are filed late. TaxResources will defend late filed returns for an additional late filing fee.  Please contact Customer Service for additional information.

What happens if I file an extension?

If your return is filed timely, including extensions, each tax return for which you purchase a membership will be defended for as long as it can be audited.

Is my amended return eligible for membership?

If the original tax return was filed timely, including extensions, amended returns are also included in that membership.

What if I have multiple state returns?

All related state returns are included.

What are the different tax return types that I can purchase a membership for?
